This is a course that covers seven different lessons related to First Nations housing and infrastructure. The lessons cover a range of topics including the history and legislation related to First Nations housing services, different housing programs and funding available to communities, cultural considerations, current developments and issues related to housing, key elements of housing construction, housing infrastructure, and housing governance. The course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the unique needs and perspectives of First Nations communities, and to effectively plan, implement and manage housing programs and services that are responsive to those needs.

Course image 2024F-200-Housing Strategy, Policy & Accountability
2024 Fall

The FNHP 200 course covers various topics related to First Nations housing strategy, policy, and accountability. The first lesson focuses on the role of the housing manager and how to work effectively with other stakeholders. The second lesson covers problem-solving and decision-making techniques, including scenario planning and risk assessment. The third and fourth lessons discuss strategic planning and implementation, including the development of operational plans and business cases. The fifth lesson covers strategy evaluation and reporting. The sixth lesson focuses on accountability and performance management, including the importance of performance evaluation and measurement. Finally, the seventh lesson covers policy development and implementation, including providing advice on compliance issues and developing policies and practices to support housing activities.

2024 Fall

The FNHP 300 course on Management of Housing Programs is designed to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of developing and managing housing programs for First Nations people. The course is divided into six lessons, including Development of Programs and Projects, Funding and Project Proposals, Program and Project Management, Tenders and Project Management, Housing Maintenance, and Working with Clients. The course covers a wide range of topics, including conducting community assessments and asset mapping, understanding funding criteria and steps required to submit a proposal to stakeholder parties, negotiating and managing funding arrangements, developing relevant and accurate reports on housing program and projects, developing an applicable housing manual, setting up and monitoring service contracts, developing a basic Capital Replacement Plan, evaluating current client relations efforts, and developing and implementing a client onboarding/orientation process.

2024 Fall

This course first provides the housing professional with key insight into the many functional supports required by Housing Professionals, including: human resources; financial management and accounting; information and technology; housing and systems; legal; quality, benchmarking and risk; and, strategic alliances and partnerships.

This course first provides participants with key insight into the topic of professionalism, an important factor that is necessary to succeed as a Housing Professional.  Individual lessons deal with learning and mentoring, self-care, ethics, leadership, facilitation, meetings management, working with change, innovation and creativity.

Ce cours fournit d'abord aux professionnels de l’habitation un aperçu clé du rôle et des responsabilités du professionnel de l’habitation. La résolution de problèmes et la prise de décision, la gestion stratégique (formulation, mise en œuvre et évaluation de la stratégie), la responsabilité, la gestion du rendement et les politiques sont explorées en rassemblant les éléments essentiels du leadership requis aujourd'hui dans les départements d’habitation des Premières Nations.
